Man charged with DUI and hit-and-run in Nashville

When people choose to drive after consuming alcohol, they put other drivers, pedestrians, and innocent residents in Clinton and throughout the state at risk. Not only do drunk drivers injure and kill people but they can also cause thousands of dollars in damage to property. Since other vehicles can be damaged by a drunk driver, this can cause their owners to lose income and create financial challenges with unexpected repair bills and loss of transportation. It can also cause emotional issues for the people inside those vehicles.

A 31-year-old man was charged in Nashville with several charges that included DUI and hit-and-run. Law enforcement officers were contacted by a woman after she and another driver attempted to chase down a man who had just committed a hit-and-run accident.

The man ended up in a ditch after hitting a telephone pole and, before that, the vehicle of the driver. The woman had stopped to try to help the man get out of the vehicle after it struck the pole and she was able to help officers find the man after he tried to run away.

While it appears that the driver of the vehicle the man hit was not injured, there was likely damage done to his car. There was no information given as to the extent of the damage but the driver may be able to file a civil case and win a judgment against the man for the costs of repairing the vehicle. While cases against people caught driving while intoxicated often center on victims, it is also important to remember that these people should also be held accountable for any physical and emotional damage they have caused.
